The Council of University Classical Departments in association with Friends of Classics invites you to
SEE WHAT TEACHING CAN OFFER
We urgently need more Classics teachers, and for those who love their Classics and have an aptitude for teaching, no career is more fulfilling.
To encourage those of you who may be thinking along these lines but are not entirely certain whether teaching is for you, the Council of University Classical Departments and the charity Friends of Classics are joining forces to offer ‘potential teachers’ the chance to spend time at a Summer School. There you will observe some of the country’s best teachers working with some of the brightest pupils, and perhaps become involved in other ways too. Second-year undergraduates and postgraduates are particularly invited to partake in this scheme.
Eight scholarships are on offer, two at each School, funded by the Friends of Classics’ Sir Desmond Bryars Foundation. Where accommodation is on-site, a scholarship will pay full residential costs (but not travel); where there is no accommodation, help with food and reasonable travel costs will be given.
Details of the four schemes are appended, with their application procedures.
If you would like simply to register an immediate interest in the scheme, please e-mail:
pvjones@friends-classics.demon.co.uk
You should give your
- name,
- university department,
- pre- and post-university addresses,
- telephone contact number, and
- name of the School that interests you (Bryanston, Durham, Lampeter, London).
These will be forwarded to the appropriate Schools.
We advise applicants immediately to alert their Tutor/Supervisor, because his/her help will be needed.
